Grange: Port Royal residents ready to benefit from cruise ship calls

Residents of Port Royal are said to ready to take advantage of the investment and economic opportunities that come with being a cruise destination.

 

They have even trademarked a brand, intended to be used as part of the marketing strategy and identification of artistic expressions that will be on offer to tourists.

 

Culture Minister Olivia Grange said in addition to jewellery, the residents will be able to showcase their already world renowned culinary treats, as well as benefit from the towns heritage tourism appeal.

 

The first cruise ship is expected to call at port next Monday.

 

During a tour of the area on Tuesday, Ms. Grange said the arrivals of cruise ships in Port Royal presents an opportunity for residents to share their rich heritage with the world.

 

 

She noted that residents have received training from the Jamaica Business Development Corporation.

 

 

She added that the area encompassing the pier, Fort Charles and Fort Rocky, will be the first entertainment zone in the country.
