Member of Parliament for South West St. Elisabeth Floyd Green has commended the truckers and other citizens who mobilised to help put out the bush fire in Flagaman district yesterday.

The fire damaged about 200 acres of farm land.

Green, who visited the affected area yesterday, described the situation as a severe blow to the farming community.

He said the quick response of truckers, who were initially in the community to provide water to residents, greatly helped the efforts of the fire brigade in getting the blaze under control.

He lamented that the fire has derailed plans by farmers who were counting on monies earned from crops ready for reaping, to cover back to school expenses.

The MP said steps are being taken to assist those affected.
