Grenade thrown at cops in St Ann during operation

The St. Ann police have released the name of the man killed during an operation in Armadale, Alexandria, last evening (Mar 23).

He is Nicoy Treleven.

Meantime, the lawman who was hospitalised as result of a grenade being hurled at him, is said to be recovering well at hospital.

The area has been blanketed by the police in search of a man who fled the scene.

He has been identified as 26 year-old Sadan Lloyd Mullings of Elgin Town, Lucea, Hanover.

He is said to be wanted in connection with several other serious crimes in western Jamaica and St. Ann.

He is being urged to turn himself in to the nearest police station immediately.

Reports are that the police got wind of alleged criminals occupying a shop that was being used as a house, and went in search of them.

Police sources have stated, that the men are thought to have been involved in the shooting of four men in Westmoreland, on Saturday.

Head of the St. Ann police Superintendent Gary Francis says grenades were used by the alleged gunmen.

Superintendent Francis says criminal elements are going to great lengths to arm themselves.

Despite never having encountered grenades in the field, the police say they will remain relentless in the fight against crime.
