by May 23rd, 2019

Two of the three candidates shortlisted to win the 2019 MVP award – Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden – have been unanimously selected to the All-NBA first team.

Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks earned one of two forward spots alongside another MVP finalist, Paul George of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The 24 year-old Antetokounmpo during the season averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game for Milwaukee who claimed the NBA’s best record at 60-22.

By making a second consecutive All-NBA team, he put himself in line to receive the largest contract in NBA history next summer: a five-year deal from the Bucks worth $247.3 million

Meanwhile, Harden of the Houston Rockets and Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) were selected as the two guards on the first team that’s rounded out by Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic.

The second team consists of Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving at guard, Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard at forward and Joel Embiid at center.

The third team is completed by Russell Westbrook, Kemba Walker, Blake Griffin, Rudy Gobert and LeBron James who missed out on not being a first-team All-NBA selection for the first time since 2007, when he was named to the second team.

James did, however, extend his streak of consecutive All-NBA selections to 15 – tying him with Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Tim Duncan for the most in league history.
