Health Min reports over 9 thousand dengue cases since 2018

by January 15th, 2020

Health and Wellness minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton has revealed that as at Monday January 13, there were 9,356 suspected, presumed or confirmed cases of dengue, since 2018.

Noting that there were some 8,000 cases recorded in 2019 alone, Dr. Tufton says the disease has become more aggressive.

He adds that during the period, there were 81 dengue related deaths.

The health minister adds that children and the elderly are more vulnerable to the disease, with children ages 5 to 14 years, being most affected.

Meantime, in dismissing claims that the government is withholding information about the number of persons affected by dengue, Dr. Tufton says the government will continue to do all it can to remedy the situation.

He was speaking at a post cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, in Kingston, this morning.
