Health Ministry reports continued increase in Covid-19 hospitalizations

575 persons are hospitalized with Covid-19.

This is 33 more than the 542 reported by the Health Ministry yesterday (January 20).

Among them, 53 are severely ill, 22 are critically ill and 118 are moderately ill.

Meantime, 7 more persons have died from the virus, pushing the death toll to 2,568.

The deaths occurred between August last year and January this year.

The deceased are 4 females and 3 males. They range in age from 59 to 89 years.

Five of the deceased lived in Kingston and St. Andrew, while 1 was from St. Catherine and the other St. Ann.

The Health Ministry says there was 1 coincidental death.

5 other deaths are now under investigation.

773 more persons have tested positive for the virus, pushing the case count to 117,717.

Of the new cases 468 are females and 305 are males.

They range in age from 6 days to 96 years.

All parishes recorded new cases.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest with 215, followed by St. Catherine with 200.

The positivity rate is 48.2 per cent.

Meantime, 199 more persons have recovered, pushing the tally to 68,079.
