As the number of Covid-19 hospitalizations continues to increase, some of the nation’s health professionals are preparing to manage an increase in patients.

The Health Ministry reported 65 Covid-19 hospitalizations on Sunday, thirteen more than the 52 recorded on Saturday.

President of the Medical Association of Jamaica, Dr. Brian James told Irie Fm news, that he hopes that with omicron BA-2 being a milder strain of the virus, the number of CEALTH ovid-19 hospitalizations will not increase dramatically.

He says, Jamaicans should continue to adhere to the health and safety protocols, to reduce the spread of the virus.

He explains that it would be a huge blow to the health sector, if the country’s hospitals become overwhelmed with Covid hospitalizations.

Meantime, regional director of the Southern Regional Health Authority, Michael Bent notes, that hospitals within the region, have several strategies in place, to manage a spike in hospitalizations.

He said, there were valuable lessons from previous waves of the virus.
