Hear the Childrens Cry calls for release of statistics on persons charged for killing children

by April 13th, 2018

Founder of Hear the Children’s Cry, Betty Ann Baine, is calling on the authorities to release statistics as to how many persons have been arrested and charged in relation to the murder of children in the country.

This, after data provided by the Jamaica Constabulary Force revealed, that 13 children have been murdered in the country up to April 7, this year.

That is almost a one hundred percent increase, when compared to the seven children killed over the same period, last year.

Ms. Blaine says unless there is an overall reduction of crime and violence in the country, there may be more victims.

She says, she is not surprised that the numbers have doubled this year.

In addition, she points out that children are sometimes indirect victims of murders and violent crimes.

Meantime, Children’s Advocate, Diahann Gordon Harrison says the recent statistics are worrying, as they highlight that crime and violence is crippling the nation.
