by December 19th, 2018

West Indies had the highest representation among overseas sides as 60 of the 70 spots designated to international players were filled at the 2019 Indian Premier League auction in Jaipur on Tuesday.

Six Windies stars attracted bids and while most came in at relatively low prices – below the base price – they were all snapped up for a cumulative five times their combined base price.

Windies T20 captain Carlos Braithwaite led the way, he was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for US $709,000 after the two-time champions won a bidding war with Kings XI Punjab.

Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran both landed big contracts worth US $596,000 with Hetmyer going to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pooran heading to Kings XI Punjab.

Jamaican pacer Oshane Thomas meanwhile was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals for US $157,000.

Sherfane Rutherford attracted a price of US $283,000 while Keemo Paul cost US $70,000 as both were bought by Delhi Capitals – formerly the Delhi Daredevils.

England, despite their players not being available after April 25 ended up with five players, all first-timers, being bought – Sam Curran, Johnny Bairstow, Joe Denly, Harry Gurney and Liam Livingstone.

In the meantime while all teams filled their full overseas quota of eight players, only three teams (Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals) filled all 25 spots in their respective squads.

Kolkata Knight Riders ended with 21 players, the fewest in the field.
