With the nation’s students now sitting the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC’s) written examinations, high school principals across the island are hoping the exams will go smoothly.

This is the third year students are undertaking the exams, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The exams started yesterday (May 23) and are slated to end on July 1.

The results are expected to be released in August or early September.

Principal of the St. Hugh’s High School in St. Andrew, Andrea Bryan Hughes told IRIE FM news that the exams started off well.

The school had recently reverted to the online teaching and learning modality to facilitate deep-cleaning following COVID-19 infections.

However, Mrs. Bryan Hughes said there has been no new infection since then, and candidates are adhering to strict COVID-19 protocols.

Meantime, Principal of the York Castle High School in Brown’s Town St. Ann, Raymon Treasure noted that the students appear to be prepared for the exams, despite the implications caused by COVID-19.

He said he foresees busy exam days ahead.

And, Principal of the St. Elizabeth High School, Keith Wellington said his students have grown accustomed to the COVID-19 protocols and are therefore eager to comply as they sit the exams.
