Holder double century gives Windies massive advantage

Captain Jason Holder starred the show as the West Indies decimated world No.2 ranked England while taking a virtually unassailable lead in the first Test at Kensington Oval.

Holder, playing in front of his home crowd and combining with his compatriot Shane Dowrich, dominated the third day with a record 295-run 7th wicket partnership before declaring at 415 for 6 for a massive lead of 627 runs.

Holder converted his third Test century into a career-best double century, a brilliant 202 to become the third no.8 batsman in Test cricket to score achieve the feat.

Dowrich also completed his third Test ton while getting an unbeaten 116 during which he stroked 11 fours and a six teaming up with his captain to make a mockery of the England bowlers who toiled effortlessly throughout the day.

Set an improbable 628 for victory the England openers batted out the rest of the day to end at 56 without loss, still trailing by 572. Rory Burns on 33 and Keaton Jennings not out on 11.

“It was a good day,” said Holder at the close. “My friends and family were here to enjoy it, as I really wanted to achieve this from the very start of my career.”

Scores: West Indies 289 and 415 for 6 declared, England 77 and 56 without loss.
