Holness again defends Downtown Kingston redevelopment project

by October 2nd, 2018

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has again sought to defend the work being done by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) as well as government’s plans for the redevelopment of Downtown Kingston and the construction of a new parliament building.

The controversial matter has plagued the UDC in recent months, with residents of some affected communities in the Downtown Kingston, complaining that they were not consulted.

Local architects had also raised concern that the process was flawed, in that government appeared to be making plans before having discussions with local experts.

In parliament today (Oct 2) Mr. Holness responded to questions tabled by Opposition member Peter Bunting.

Mr. Holness sought to assure that adequate information and consolations were conducted.

The Prime Minister said government is developing a high level concept, via a feasibility study, which will afterwards help formulate a master plan for the redevelopment.
