Holness calls for probe into PAC meeting miscommunication

by December 11th, 2018

The Prime Minister has called for a probe into how either a misunderstanding, or miscommunication, led to this morning’s (Dec 11) confusion about the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

This after the PAC meeting was halted shortly after being convened, due to what the house leader claimed was no agreement to sit today.

The committee chairman however disputed the claim.

Indicating that he would like to know what went wrong, Prime Minister Andrew Holness suggested that the House Speaker investigate the matter and table a report.

And, Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips pointed out that the affairs of the house, including matters relating to the clerk and her staff, fall under the responsibility of the speaker.

He sought confirmation from the speaker that parliamentary committees operate with autonomy.
