Some hospital staff paid following protest

by April 10th, 2017

Payments have been made to some fortnightly paid workers at the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital in St. Ann.

Union delegate Fitzroy Morrison says workers are paid through two commercial banks and up to news-time, only workers who have accounts with one of the banks had received their pay.

The workers this morning took industrial action in the form of a go -slow to register their displeasure with not being paid.

They claimed they were not informed that payments would be delayed and only discovered this when they sought to make withdrawals at the atm.

Two hospital workers who spoke with reporters this afternoon, said they were upset because of how they were treated.

The workers who were affected by the late payments include porters, female attendants and grounds men.

Meanwhile. CEO of the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital Leo Garrel said he spoke with some workers on Friday about the situation.

He said a meeting was held with the Chairman of the North Eastern Regional Health Authority and the workers were assured payments would be made today (Apl 10).
