by September 21st, 2019

The Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) has indicated that today’s coastal clean-up activity at the Palisadoes go kart track in Kingston went well, with hundreds of volunteers turning up to help clean the beach.

The activity is one of many being conducted island wide as part of today’s recognition of International Coastal Clean Up Day.

JET is the national coordinator for international coastal clean up day in Jamaica.

Programme Director at JET, Tamoy Singh Clarke said plastic was the main garbage type found and collected along the beach.

She said the plastic waste was taken by Recycling Partners of Jamaica.

Over the next few days, JET will collate information on the other clean up activities that were conducted at different sites across the island by various groups.

Ms. Clarke said the data gathered by the volunteers during the garbage collection will be used to help with research and policy guidelines on waste management.
