Impressive performances by the Jamaicans on opening day of 124th Penn Relays

National girls champion Edwin Allen High School had an impressive opening day as did Hydel High and Holmwood Technical on today’s opening day of the 124th staging of the Penn relays at the Franklyn Field stadium in Philadelphia.

Edwin Allen secured two victories on the day, while booking their spots in the 4×100 meters and 4×400 meters championship events.

Hydel also secured two championship spots while Holmwood have advanced to three championship finals.

Meanwhile GC Foster College’s Tisanna Hickling leapt 6.46 meters in taking the College women long jump championship title.

Former Holmwood athlete Gleneve Grange threw 16.40metres for third place in the college women’s shot put championship, won by Jessica Woodard of Oklahoma, 16.96metres.

Former Edwin Allen high standout Shannon Kalawan now representing St. Augustine University had earlier captured the college women’s 400 meters hurdles title winning in a time of 57.30 seconds.

She finished ahead of UWI’s Candice McLeod who clocked 57.78 seconds.
