INDECOM probing police shootings in St. Catherine which left 4 men dead

The Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM is probing the fatal shooting of four men in Zambia, Central Village in St. Catherine, this morning (March 9).

The men who the police described as gunmen have not yet been identified.

Head of the St. Catherine South Police Division, Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips told Irie FM News, that the incident occurred at about 2:30am.

He said lawmen were on an operation, when gunmen opened gunfire at them.

The police team returned fire, and the four men were later seen suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

SSP Phillips said 3 firearms were also seized.

Assistant Commissioner of Indecom, Hamish Campbell told Irie Fm News that the investigations are in the early stages.

Noting that the full details of the incident are not yet known, he said investigators from the commission are at the scene.

Meantime, Mr. Campbell in expressing concern about the multiple fatalities said full scrutiny is required.
