Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has become the fastest bowler to take 300 wickets in test cricket.
He achieved the feat after taking an overall 8 for 130 to lead the home team to a massive innings and 239 runs win in the second test against Sri Lanka in Nagpur.
The Sri Lankans who started the 4th and penultimate day on 21 for one…….and facing a deficit of 384……were blown away for 166.
Dinesh Chandimal was their top scorer with 61 while Ashwin took 4 for 63 to follow up on his 4 for 67 in first innings.
The 31 year old who is playing in only his 54th match…….surpasses the previous record of 56 which held by former Australian great Dennis Lillee.
Meanwhile Indian captain Virat kohli was named man of the match for his knock of 213.
Final scores India 610 for 6 declared, Sri Lanka 205 and 166.
India takes a 1-nil lead in the three-test series……. the first test ended in a draw.
