Irie FM’s Bob Clarke among scores of persons given national awards today

Scores of Jamaicans were conferred with various distinctions at the National Awards ceremony today (Oct 15) at King’s House.

Over two hundred awardees were recognized for their significant contributions to nation building at the event presided over by Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen.

Among those awarded was actor, singer, songwriter and social activist Harold George Bellanfanti Jnr. who received Jamaica’s fourth highest award, the Order of Merit (OM) for his outstanding contribution in the field of music.

Earl Wesley Jarrett, who was conferred with the Order of Jamaica (OJ) said the recognition has made him more humble, noting that he hopes more persons will be motivated to volunteer, and commit to the country, and the advancement of the Jamaican people.

He was awarded for his contribution to the banking and financial sectors, public service and volunteerism.

The other OJ recipients are: Grace Beverly Jones, for contribution in the field of entertainment internationally; and Giuseppe Francesco Maffessanti, for contribution to the construction industry, social development, welfare and philanthropy.

Meanwhile, President of the Bustamante Trade Union (BITU) Senator Kavan Gayle  in recognition for his contribution to the trade union movement and public service, was credited the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander.

Businessman Norman Washington Horne got his CD for his contribution to entrepreneurship and community development.

Meanwhile, entertainer Winston “Yellowman” Foster, expressed gratitude after receiving his OD from the governor general, and noted that the Jamaican people contributed to the success of his music career.

And, veteran broadcaster Walter Charles Clarke, popularly known as Bob Clarke, was invested with the Order of Distinction at the National Honours and awards ceremony at Kings House this morning.

Clarke was among several Jamaicans from all walks of life who were awarded for service in various areas of national life.

The co-founder of Irie FM radio, received the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Officer, for service to the entertainment industry, especially broadcasting.
