Ismail and Chetty ruled out of South Africa squad for West Indies tour

by September 9th, 2018

South Africa women will head into the limited-overs series against West Indies women without two key players – fast bowler Shabnim Ismail and wicketkeeper batsman Trisha Chetty.

Chetty has been ruled out of the tour with a back injury, while Ismail has been allowed to return home after her father fell ill.

While no replacement has been named for Ismail, Chetty’s place will be taken by 19-year old debutant Faye Tunnicliffe.

The Windies women, in preparation for South Africa’s visit, last week named a 15-member squad that saw Guyanese right-hander Shemaine Campbell making a return after a two-year absence.

The side will be led by captain Stafanie Taylor and includes mainstays like Merissa Aguilleira, Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews. Britney Cooper and Akeira Peters, who toured New Zealand, have been overlooked.

The three-match ODI series and the first T20I will be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, before the sides will move to the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad for the remaining four T20Is.
