The first delegations for the Paralympic Games arrived at the 44-hectare village in the capital’s Harumi waterfront district as the Tokyo 2020 athletes’ village reopened on August 17, 2021 – this comes one week before the start of the event.

The delegations include Jamaica’s management team of Chef de Mission Richard Shaw, Administrator Ann Marie Smith and Dr Leroy Harrison.

As was the case with Olympians, residents at the village will be required to undergo daily Covid-19 testing, wear face masks and observe physical distancing.

President of the Jamaica Paralympic Association Christopher Samuda will lead the country’s delegation.

The Jamaican Para-athletes will include Australian based Alberto Campbell in the T20 class contesting the 400 meters race and veteran Paralympian Sylvia Grant in the T57 class discus.

Athletics coach Neville Sinclair says Campbell based on assessments is Jamaica’s best bet for a podium finish on the men’s side.

Sinclair is also anticipating that grant who will be competing in her 8th Paralympics…..will come up with a good distance to be in the running.

Jamaica’s other representatives at the Paralympics are Theodore Subba who will contest the 100 kg Judo and Shauna-kay Hines who will be competing in Taekwondo.
