by May 12th, 2017

Jailed Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has trademarked his name from behind bars while serving time for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp .

The move has   prompted   speculation that he will attempt to re-build his brand once he is freed from jail.

The shamed athlete applied to have his name protected in eight wide-ranging trademark categories – including endorsements for sportswear, mental health services and prosthetic limbs – only months after being jailed for killing his girlfriend

Members of Pistorius’ family ‘still believe the brand is not dead’ and the 30 year-old sprinter still ‘has much he can make of his life.’

The eclectic range of good and services in which the double amputee – best known as the blade runner – has sought to protect his name reflect the highest and lowest points of the fallen star’s short life.

An intellectual property  lawyer Elaine Bergenthuin, who ‘stumbled upon’ Pistorius trademark applications while filing documents for her client, described the south African sprinter’s trademark strategy as ‘comprehensive’.
