by September 19th, 2019

Jamaica is committed to continuing with the implementation of reforms started under the precautionary stand-by arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

That’s according to Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke.

Speaking at a press conference to mark the end of Jamaica’s IMF agreement, last evening, Dr. Clarke noted that the agreement has been characterized by Jamaican policy initiatives with strong technical support from the IMF.

He said these have led to a Jamaican success story recognized all across the world.

And, Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the country needs to build social consensus to unite and tackle issues such as crime and corruption that are affecting the country.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a press conference to mark the end of Jamaica’s IMF agreement.

He noted that Jamaica is now being viewed as an example of a country that has successfully executed difficult economic policies, and that building social consensus was a very critical part of the success of the IMF program.

He said the country should learn from the transformation in the economy and apply this success to other areas.

The Prime Minister said Jamaicans need to come together to tackle other crises impacting the country.

Mr. Holness said consensus will also allow Jamaica to tackle issues of corruption and growth and efficiency.

He said there must be consensus on critical national issues to effect meaningful change.
