Jamaica continues to see high numbers of Covid-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations

Jamaica continues to see high numbers of Covid-19 deaths, hospitalizations and cases.

The positivity rate is 50.7 per cent.

835 persons tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday (August 27)

The country’s Covid-19 case count is now 65,734.

Of the new cases, 493 are females and 342 are males.

They range in age from 1 day to 97 years.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases with 178, followed by St. Catherine with 170.

Meantime, there were 18 additional deaths, pushing the Covid death toll to 1,483.

The deceased are 10 females and 8 males.

They range in age from 51 to 101 years.

Four lived in St. Ann, 3 each in St. James and Westmoreland, 2 in Clarendon, and 1 each in St. Mary, Trelawny, St. Elizabeth, St. Catherine, Kingston and St. Andrew and Portland.

The deaths occurred between August 23 and 26.

The Health Ministry says 5 more deaths are under investigation.

728 persons are hospitalized, among them 86 are severely ill, 58 critically ill and 194 are moderately ill.

Meantime, 60 more persons have recovered pushing the tally to 48,028.

There are 15,811 active cases.
