Jamaica records 1,714 new Covid cases, pushing the positivity rate to 60.3 per cent

Jamaica’s Covid-19 positivity rate has risen to a record high.

The Health Ministry has reported a positivity rate of 60. 3 per cent.

This as 1,714 persons tested positive for the virus yesterday (January 10), pushing the country’s case count to 105,172.

Of the new cases, 1,011 are females and 701 are males.

They range in age from 1 day to 99 years.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases with 587, followed by St. Catherine with 309.

Meantime, a 77-year-old St. Catherine man is the latest person to die from Covid-19.

3 other deaths are under investigation.

Hospitalizations have increased to 307, 87 of them are moderately ill, 31 are severely ill and 10 are critically ill.

Meantime, 94 more persons have recovered from the virus, pushing total recoveries to 66,675.
