Jamaica records 18 new Covid-19 deaths, 584 new cases

Jamaica has recorded another increase in Covid-19 deaths, with 18 more persons dying from the virus.

The death toll now stands at 2, 635.

The deaths occurred between January 17 and 25.

8 of the deceased lived in Kingston and St. Andrew, 5 were from St. Catherine, 2 from Portland, one from St. Mary, one from Manchester and one from St. Ann.

The Health Ministry said, two other deaths are under investigation.

Meantime, Covid hospitalizations increased to 570. 136 of them are moderately ill, 66 severely ill and 18 critically ill.

584 more persons have tested positive for the virus, bringing the case count to 123,047.

Of the new cases, 342 are females and 242 are males. They range in age from 30 days to 99 years.

Kingston and st. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases with 133 and st. Catherine followed with 81.

The positivity rate increased to 46. 3 per cent.

309 more persons have recovered from the virus, pushing total recoveries to 69,258.
