Jamaica records 580 new Covid-19 cases and 9 more deaths, while hospitalisations increase to 393

Jamaica continues to see an increase in Covid-19 cases, hospitalisations and deaths.

The Health Ministry says there were 580 new Covid-19 cases yesterday (August 13) pushing the tally to 57,289.

393 persons are in hospital, while 9 more deaths have been recorded.

The deceased include 6 females and 3 males and range in age from 43 to 89 years.

They lived in Manchester, St. Catherine and Kingston and St. Andrew.

The country’s Covid death toll is now 1,285.

There was one more coincidental death, while one other death is now under investigation.

Meantime, among the over 300 hospitalized Covid patients are 44 who are critically ill and 88 who are moderately ill.

The Health Ministry is also reporting that 22 more persons have recovered, pushing the tally to 47,411.

There are 8,225 active cases.

Of the over 500 new cases recorded yesterday, 349 are females while 231 are males.

They range in age from 11 days to 101 years.

St. Catherine recorded the highest number of cases with 128, followed by St. Ann with 117.

The positivity rate is 38.5 percent.
