Jamaica records 860 new Covid-19 cases and 6 more deaths

For the first time in over a week, Jamaica’s daily Covid-19 cases have fallen below a thousand.

According to the Health Ministry, 860 new cases were recorded yesterday (January 19).

The country’s case count is now 116,944.

Of the new cases 522 are females and 338 are males, they range in age from 75 days to 93 years.

All parishes recorded new cases. Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cased with 306, followed by St. Catherine with 145.

The positivity rate is 47 per cent.

Meantime, 6 more persons have died from Covid-19, pushing the death toll to 2,561.

The deaths occurred between March last year and January this year. Three of the deaths were previously under investigation.

The deceased are 3 males and three females, ranging in age from 58 to 94 years.

Three lived in Kingston and St. Andrew and 1 each in St. Ann, St. Catherine and Manchester.

Two other deaths are now under investigation.

542 persons are hospitalized with the virus, among them, 61 are severely ill, 20 are critically ill and 117 are moderately ill.

Meanwhile, 199 more persons have recovered, pushing that tally to 67,880.
