Jamaica records fewer than 100 new Covid-19 cases

For the first time in weeks, Jamaica has recorded fewer than 100 new Covid-19 cases.

The Health Ministry says 98 new Covid-19 cases were recorded yesterday (October 5), pushing the tally to 85,261.

Of the new cases, 52 are females and 46 are males, they range in age from 11 months to 99 years.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases with 30, followed by St. Catherine with 18.

The positivity rate is 16.8 per cent.

Meantime, there were 7 additional Covid-19 related deaths.

The deceased are 4 males and 3 females.

They range in age from 59 to 92 years.

St. Elizabeth recorded 4 deaths, Kingston and St. Andrew recorded 2 deaths and St. Ann recorded 1 death.

The deaths occurred between September 7 and October 3.

The country’s Covid-19 death toll is now 1,943.

8 additional deaths are under investigation.

507 persons are in hospital, among them 67 are severely ill, 34 are critically ill and 107 are moderately ill.

122 more persons have recovered, pushing that tally to 53, 660.

29,070 cases are active.
