Jamaica records increases in Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths

The Health Ministry is reporting an increase in Covid-19 cases, hospitaliztions and deaths.

13 Covid-19 related deaths were reported yesterday (August 10) while Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations have both surpassed the 300 mark.

345 persons are in hospital, among them are 69 who are moderately ill and 35 who are critically ill.

28 more persons have recovered, pushing the tally to 47,333.

6,836 cases are active.

Meantime, the Health Ministry is reporting 13 more deaths, pushing the Covid death toll to 1,254.

The deceased are 8 females and 5 males ranging in age from 32 to 88 years.

They lived the parishes of Clarendon, St. Catherine, St. Elizabeth, Manchester and Kingston & St. Andrew.

The ministry says the deaths occurred during the period August 4-9.

Meantime, 334 new Covid cases have pushed the country’s case count to 55,790.

Of the new cases, 204 are females and 130 are males.

They range in age from 4 months to 92 years.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases with 82, followed by Manchester with 40.

The positivity rate is 35. 3 per cent.
