Jamaica records more than 100 murders since the start of the year

Jamaica has recorded more than 100 murders in less than a month.

According to the latest data published by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, there were 111 murders, as at Saturday January 22.

This is 18 more than the 93 recorded in the corresponding period last year.

St. James has the highest number of murders with 21, followed by Westmoreland with 12 and St. Catherine South with 11.

All police divisions have recorded murders, except St. Mary and Portland.

Meantime, there were declines in cases of rape, robbery and break-ins.

Rapes declined by 32, down to 17 from 49.

Robberies declined by 3, down to 64 from 67.

While break-ins dropped by 14, from 50 to 36.
