by November 13th, 2020

With reports that several international companies are making progress in developing covid-19 vaccines, Jamaica could get access by March 2021, if a vaccine is successfully approved.

That’s according to Assistant Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for the Americas, Dr. Jarbas Barbosa da Silva.

Speaking during a press conference last evening, Dr. Barbosa da Silva said 11 vaccines are in the final stages of trials and with the demand that could arise if licenses are approved for them, Jamaica which is a part of the COVAX facility could benefit from some 30, 000 vaccines next year.

He said front line workers and the elderly would be among the first to receive the vaccine.

Meantime, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor Mckenzie says the ministry is working on a covid-19 vaccine implementation plan.
