Jamaican 400m runner Kavon Nelson shot and killed in Kingston

The local track and field fraternity is now in mourning following the death of 400m runner Kavon Nelson.

According to police reports, Nelson was killed around 12:30 a.m. when armed men invaded his home in Macville Terrace, Kingston 19 and opened gunfire hitting him.

The 25 year old, after the arrival of the police, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Nelson, a past student of Calabar High School, was a member of the Michael Clarke led Akan Track Club at the time of his death.

He represented Jamaica at the nacac under 23 championships in 2014.

His training partner, world championship medallist, Javon Francis took to social media to express his grief.

“RIP to my best friend, otherwise my training partner,” Francis posted on his Facebook page Tuesday morning. “I never know this day would come. You are a brother to me and someone who love and care but I just want to say I love you from the bottom of my heart you will still be in my heart bro.”
