Jamaican born Donovan Bailey to be inducted into Canada’s walk of fame

Former 100-metre world record holder Jamaican born Donovan Bailey is to be inducted into Canada’s walk of fame later this month.

Bailey who moved to Canada in 1981, won the Olympic gold in the 100-metres and 4×100-metre relays at the 1996 Olympics.

His world record of 9.84 seconds would stand for three years before it was broken by Maurice Greene in 1999,  and his Olympic record stood until 2008 eclipsed by Usain Bolt. Bailey remains the Canadian record holder in the 100 metres event, tied with Bruny Surin.

Bailey who was inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame back in 2005, said he was honored to be recognized by the country.

The ceremony is set for November 15 in Toronto and the star will be mounted in the spring, of 2018.
