Jamaica’s top rally driver Jeff Panton drove away with the major honours at the Flow King of the Hill time trial yesterday in Barbados.
Panton and co-driver Mike Fennell JR, driving the Rubis/Sandals Barbados/KIG Ford Focus World Rally Car 06, showed that his performance last year was no fluke, as he stamped his authority among the top-class drivers by returning the event’s fastest time of 2 minutes 46.45 seconds.
Former champion driver Rhett Watson of Barbados and co-driver James Hutchinson driving a well prepared Cheffette BMW m3 turned in a near flawless performance to take top honours for 2 wheel drive competitors clocking 2 minutes 54. 82 seconds and placed 7th overall.
The Flow King of the Hill is a tarmac course approximately 3 kilometers in length, where drivers must take a co-driver on all timed runs. The course layout emphasizes car handling, driver skill, and maneuverability rather than performance.
