Jamaicans Simon Tomlinson and Kane Watson failed to score a victory on yesterday’s opening game to close the day at the bottom of their groups at the 2017 World Table Tennis Championships in Dusseldorf Germany.
Both are in action in the preliminary round of the competition seeking to advance to the main draw of the nine day tournament.
Tomlinson lost 4-love to group leader Alejandro Toranzos of Paraguay……….going down 11-6, 11-8, 11-5, 11-5 in his opening game.
He then suffered a 4-2 defeat in his second game to Saheed Idowu of Congo Brazzaville 11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-7 and will face-off with Mohamed Hamie of Lebanon in his final group 58 encounter today.
The second Jamaican at the championships Kane Watson also ended winless yesterday and sits at the bottom of group 64.
Watson was beaten 4-love by Lionel Webber of Switzerland ………11-8, 11-6, 11-3, 11-3.
He also suffered a 4-2 loss to Luka Fucec of Croatia 11-4, 11-4, 11-8, 5-11, 7-11, 11-7.
Watson will make his final bid for a place in the main draw today when he tackle Michael Tauber of Israel.
