Jamaicans urged to get vaccinated before upcoming Christmas season

Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says it would be a tragedy, if the country could not carry out the traditions of this upcoming Christmas season, due to COVID-19.

 

Dr. Tufton notes that the government and several stakeholders have been spreading the message, about the importance of persons getting vaccinated against the virus, so that the country can return to normalcy.

 

Noting that the government will soon have to seek other approaches toward COVID-19, dr. Tufton says, the ministry is exhausting this current policy of trying to get people vaccinated. He says, the hope is to administer 1 million doses of the vaccine by November.

 

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jaquiline Bisasor-Mckenzie is imploring citizens to get vaccinated against covid-19 before the upcoming Christmas season.

 

Dr. Bisasor-Mckenzie, who was speaking during a digital covid conversation Thursday noted that during the yuletide season, there is more risk of persons being exposed to the virus.

 

She explained, that similar to last year, there is a need for persons to exercise more caution, to help reduce the spread of the virus and protect lives.

 

Dr. Bisasor-mckenzie said the hope is that a significant number of persons would have received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine before the Christmas season.
