The Jamaica Association for Private Security, JAPS, has supported a call from the police for security companies that offer courier services to review their operations.

This following yesterday’s multi-million-dollar robbery in Portmore Pines, St. Catherine, where three security guards were shot, one of them fatally.

Ten million dollars was stolen.

Speaking after the incident, Head of the St. Catherine South Police Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips said recent robberies across Jamaica should also be viewed as a warning that businesses should ramp up their security measures.

Responding to the call this morning, President of JAPS Teddy Lee Gray said security guards will need better weaponry, gear and training if they are expected to confront the sophisticated criminals operating in Jamaica.

He said security companies should also ensure that armored vehicles that are transporting cash and valuables are adequately staffed with at least four security guards.
