Jason Holder scores 99 to help West Indies to 6 wicket win over Papua New Guinea

The West Indies cricketers stayed on course to reach the 2019 ICC cricket world cup , after easing to a 6 wicket win over group a’ opponents Papua New Guinea this morning, to secure their second  victory on the trot in the ICC World cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

Captain Jason holder fell agonizingly short of his first IDO ton after scoring an unbeaten 99, and Craig Brathwaite had a five wicket haul, as the Caribbean men chasing 201 runs for victory, eased to their target with 42 balls to spare.

Holder’s 99 runs came off 101 balls, that included 9 fours and 4 sixes, useful support came from Shai Hope who hit and unbeaten 49, to rescue the ‘Windies who had earlier slipped to 58 for 4.

Marlon Samuels was the only other ‘windies’ player in double figures with 24 ,….Shimron Hetmyer and Evin Lewis both fell for 8 runs, while Jason Mohammed was sent packing for a duck.

Top batsman Chris Gayle who made a century in the West Indies recent win over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was not listed in the team.

Earlier Brathwaite grabbed an impressive 5 for 27 to help restrict Papua New Guinea to 200 runs, with Assad Aala top scoring with 57 while Norman Vanua and Mahuri Dai both made 35.
