Jason Kidd, Steve Nash among Hall of Fame candidates for 2018

Two of the NBA’s most celebrated point guards in Jason Kidd and Steve Nash headline a list of eligible nominees for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018.

Kidd, who is second in career assists behind only John Stockton, ranks third in NBA history with 107 triple-doubles and was a 10-time All-Star who won the title with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011.

Nash, who was an eight-time All-Star, won back-to-back MVP awards in 2005 and 2006 (making him just one of 12 players to win the award twice) while playing for the Phoenix Suns and is third all-time in assists.

Other notable first timers announced by the Hall of Fame on Thursday are:

Ray Allen, a 10-time All-Star who won titles with in 2008 with the Boston Celtics and 2013 with the Miami Heat, is the all-time leader in made three-pointers.

Chauncey Billups, a seven-time All-Star who won an NBA title with the Detroit Pistons in 2004.

Grant Hill, a seven-time All-Star and co-rookie of the year in 1995 (with Kidd), who played 18 seasons in the NBA. While at Duke, he won two national titles and was twice named an All-American.

Richard Hamilton, who played alongside Billups on the Pistons championship team, was selected to three All-Star teams.

Notable repeat nominations among NBA players include Chris Webber, Ben Wallace, Muggsy Bogues, Maurice Cheeks, Tim Hardaway and Sidney Moncrief.

The finalists will be announced in mid-February during All-Star weekend in Los Angeles.

The 2018 Hall of Fame Class will be unveiled six weeks later, at the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio.
