The Jamaica Defence Force, (JDF), has launched a probe into an altercation between soldiers and residents in Kingston, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The video depicts soldiers taking a male civilian into custody, and placing him in a jeep.

A female civilian is then seen in confrontation with the soldiers.

She is then hit by the soldiers.

The male civilian exits the jeep and confronts the soldiers, who use their guns to hit him, before taking him back to the vehicle.

In a statement the JDF acknowledged the incident caught on video.

The JDF said it occurred on Wednesday, and involved soldiers at a checkpoint in the Denham Town Zone of Special Operation.

The JDF has committed to ensuring that appropriate actions will be taken, as deemed necessary.

It is urging residents of communities within which the security forces are required to operate, to cooperate with the soldiers, as they seek to ensure the safety and security of citizens within these spaces.

The JDF added that its committed to working with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, in re-evaluating how the challenges in the community may be better managed.

Persons with information relating to this, or any other matter of a security nature, are being urged to report same to the JDF.

In the meantime, the Independent Commission of Investigations, Indecom, is also urging citizens involved in the matter, to lodge a formal complaint.

Indecoms senior public relations officer Denyelle Anderson said contact has already been made with the JDF, in a bid to identify the soldiers involved in the altercation.

Wedenesday’s incident is the latest in a series of confrontations between residents of Denham Town and the members of the security forces, one of which was fatal, and resulted in a protest by angry citizens.
