Jhaniele Fowler-Reid returns from injury to lead Southern Steel to undefeated regular season

by June 19th, 2017

Sunshine girl Jhaniele Fowler-Reid and her Southern Steel team have created history by becoming the first to go undefeated throughout the entire regular season in the ANZ Premiership in New Zealand.

It comes after they notched up a 64-51 win over the Central Pulse in the 13th and final round.

Fowler-Reid led the way with a game high 51 goals from 53 attempts to earn MVP honours after missing the previous game due to injury.

The 27 year old, who leads the league in scoring, suffered minor injuries after the team bus overturned after colliding with a car in Christchurch last Monday.

Fowler-Reid and 3 of her teammates were admitted to Christchurch Hospital’s Accident and Emergency department following the accident.

Fowler-Reid, mid-courter Shannon Francois and shooter Te Paea Selby-Rickit were released the same day while team captain Wendy Frew was admitted overnight and underwent surgery to repair injuries to her elbow and leg.

In the meantime the Southern Steel end the regular season campaign with maximum 30 points and are through to the June 28 final.
