JHTA reacts to USA report on sexual assault of visitors

by October 31st, 2018

The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has indicated that it’s too early to determine if a damming report in international media about allegations of sexual assault of American female visitors will have an impact.

JHTA President Omar Robinson however sought to assure that resorts and hotels take all necessary measures to ensure that visitors are safe.

He noted that the article in the US media referenced reports of 78 incidents of sexual assault against American visitors over the past 7 years, during which period Jamaica has welcomed over 20 million visitors.

While condemning acts of sexual assault, Mr. Robinson stressed that JHTA members take seriously any incident which threatens the safety and security of visitors, and that members invest in special training of their staff to ensure this.

He added that at no time is there any attempt by the hotels to deceive or cover up.
