The Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association, JMEA has assured that it stands ready to support entrepreneurs who want to sell their products online, via Amazon.

Amazon recently approved Jamaica for selling through the web based platform and many manufacturers are gearing up to take advantage of the opportunity, to reach customers on a global scale.

In light of the emerging export market, the Jamaica Business Development Corporation JBDC is hosting a series of virtual sessions to help entrepreneurs better understand the Amazon system.

Among the panelists at yesterday’s (July 27) session was Stephen Dawkins, a Director of the JMEA, and Export Manager for the Wisynco Group.

Mr. Dawkins pointed out that Jamaica has a very wide trade deficit and that the country does not have an exporting economy, a situation that is not beneficial.

He also pointed out that in the midst of the Covid pandemic, it was the manufacturing sector that withstood the most, when compared to other sectors such as tourism.

Mr. Dawkins said with the opening up of the Amazon platform, Jamaican manufacturers must ensure that their products are export ready.

He said currently only about 36 percent of the JMEA membership, export.
