The Jamaica Public Service has launched a new programme to cut the number of power outages and the time taken for restoration of service
The programme is the reliability 3.0.
It’s designed to improve reliability of the electricity service by thirty percent over the next three to five years.
The programme will be supported by a budget of US $116 m.
President and CEO of JPS Emanuel Darosa says the programme will reduce the 29 hour outage time down to 20 hours.
Mr. Darosa states that this multifaceted programme will focus on developing a new power plant, taking into consideration renewables, storage, and asset management among other things.
He notes that installing the smart meters will be the most important aspect of the programme, as it will improve power quality and reliability to customers.
