JTA calls for screening at early childhood level

by January 13th, 2019

President of the Jamaica Teachers Association, Dr. Garth Anderson, has called on the authorities to institute proper screening for students at the early childhood level.

He says as a country, if equitable opportunities are to be provided for all students, proper screening must become a priority.

Dr. Anderson adds that early identification, and intervention, must be part of any structure that is considered, as studies have shown that where this is done, the affected children normally recover and do well.

He was speaking at a special education conference and workshop at the Church Teachers college in Mandeville, Manchester, on Friday.
