Justice Sykes cites importance of efficiency to court case management

by February 24th, 2018

Acting Chief Justice Bryan Sykes has warned that time wasting and other practices that contribute to the inefficiencies in the courts in Jamaica will not be tolerated.

Justice Sykes says he recognises that the Jamaican justice system must be reformed so that there can be a high standard of justice, and that the driving force to achieve this, must be efficiency.

He was speaking this morning (Feb 24) at the case flow management seminar, hosted by the Justice Ministry, at the Jewels Paradise Cove Resort in Runaway Bay, St. Ann.

Effective case flow management is being dubbed as critical to improving efficiency and moving cases expeditiously through the courts, thereby avoiding delays in trials and reducing the backlog of cases.

Justice Sykes says efficiency is important not only to the court, but to the overall economic development of the country.

He told the parish court staff in attendance that their role will be very crucial in the justice system reform process, and invited them to fully embrace this new development.
