Kevin Durant announces move to join Brooklyn Nets

by June 30th, 2019

The balance of power in the NBA has been drastically reshaped with perennial outsiders Brooklyn Nets acquiring the services of two-time finals MVP and four-time scoring champion Kevin Durant.

Durant confirmed the news on the Instagram account of The Boardroom, an online series he co-produces, as the league’s free agency period got underway on Sunday.

It is also being reported that two other all-stars – Kkyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan – are likely to join him in Brooklyn.

Durant, who won two titles with the Golden State Warriors, will sign a four-year deal worth $164 million while Irving will also sign up on a four-year contract worth $141 million.

Durant, a 10-time all-star who just completed his 12th NBA season, was leading all post-season scorers at 34.2 points per game when he strained his right calf in game 5 of the Western Conference semi-finals against the Houston Rockets.

He is expected to miss the entire 2019-2020 campaign as he recovers from an Achilles injury. Durant ruptured his right Achilles on June 10, in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, a devastating injury that changed the entire dynamic of the NBA offseason. He underwent surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York on June 12.
