Kool Ravers wants credit for dance move in British Christmas ad

by November 25th, 2019

Popular dancehall dancer Kool Ravers of the Ravers Clavers has been left disappointed over the lack of credit given to his dance creation ‘Fling’, which was seemingly hijacked by British multinational retail brand, Marks and Spencer for their new Christmas ad.

“Dem nuh with the thing but want inna yuh thing not even a mention of your own creation…” commented Kool Ravers, under a post referring to the ad, made on social media, by popular British media personality SeaniB, of BBC1xtra.

One of the main choreographers for the ad, on Sunday evening, also added to the comments, asserting that the dance move, dubbed the shoulder roll, was taken from a number of dance styles, inclusive of jazz-funk, hip hop, British jazz, and dancehall.

A dancehall choreographer of Jamaican origin residing in London, another choreographer involved in the ad, in an interview on Sunday with BBC News, stated that while he is happy to share the style of the dance with whoever wants to be involved, the move is just the shoulder roll and not a dancehall move.

The Marks and Spencer, Go Jumpers all-dancing Christmas ad, which has caught the attention of dancehall fans worldwide, instructs persons to “adopt a power stance, then roll your shoulder forward and back and repeat,” a description that fits directly that of the Kool Ravers dance move Fling.
