Final works are underway at the Port Royal cruise pier in Kingston, as the location gets ready to welcome its first ship on Monday.
The Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) which is carrying out the work, says the facility is about 90 % complete.
When the Irie FM News team arrived at the pier during a media sensitization tour this morning, engineers and other workers were seen busy adding the final touches to the facility.
President and Chief Executive Office of the PAJ Professor Gordon Shirley, says while all the work is not fully complete, some 2000 tourists are prepared to visit on Monday.
Meantime, Mr. Shirley says the US $45 m facility will be the first multi-purpose port on the island.
He adds, that some sections will be opened to the public on specific days.
Port Royal is the 5th cruise port in Jamaica; the others are located in Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Falmouth, and Port Antonio.
